Simple Ways to Conserve Water
Check for leaks in your plumbing. Even an old, worn faucet or a leaky toilet can amount to many gallons of water wasted every single day. Checking all your household plumbing fixtures, making repairs or calling a plumber where needed, can actually generate big savings.
Install water-saving plumbing fixtures. Low-flow shower heads and faucet aerators can help you curb waste. A plumber can assist with the installation, if need be.
Insulate exposed pipes. Cut back on the heat loss from water travelling from your hot water heater to your faucets—and thus, on the amount of water that needs to be generated.
Shorten your showers. Every minute you shave from your shower time translates into dollars in your bank account!
Don’t run the water when you don’t need to. There’s no reason to keep the faucet on while you brush your teeth, for example.
Only run your washing machine and your dishwasher with full loads. There’s no need to waste water on just a few dishes or a super-small load of laundry.
Water your lawn and your plants during optimal times. Water during the early morning, to prevent water loss from evaporation. Also avoid watering when it’s windy outside.
Only use your toilet for its intended purpose. If you use it to flush every stray Kleenex or cigarette butt, you’re wasting a great deal of water, and also doing potential damage to your pipes!
