Getting Rid of Bad Bathroom Odors

Nobody likes to spend time in a bathroom that just smells odious and foul. Enough said, right? Sadly, for many homeowners, odorous bathrooms are sort of the norm. For whatever reason, your bathroom always seems to smell rank, stale, or putrid. This can, in turn, make you feel as though your home is simply not clean or sanitary.
Odors can be vanquished and gotten rid of, but you’ll need to implement the right strategies. Below are just a few words of advice for deodorizing your stinky bathroom.
  • Make sure you’re in the habit of letting air flow through your bathroom, especially following a steamy shower. Bad air circulation can cause humidity to build and mold and mildew to grow—and that can make the bathroom smell bad. It sounds silly, but just opening windows, running the fan, and letting the door stay open for a while can make a world of difference.

  • Install a towel rack. Don’t hang wet towels all together in a bunch, and don’t hang them on a hook on the bathroom door. Really let your towels air out. Again, this prevents mold and mildew and it ultimately reduces odors.

  • Following your showers, close the curtain all the way, which will allow air to circulate through the folds of the fabric and fully dry it out. This is still another way to cut back on moisture, mold, and mildew growth.

  • An important step to take: Check your bathroom for leaks. Look under the sink and all around the toilet for any sign of moisture damage or slow, drippy leaks. Water leaking onto wood floors or cabinets can lead to a foul smell. Obviously, if you do find a leak, you’ll want to either fix it or, if need be, .

  • No homeowner likes to think that he or she does a poor job keeping the house clean—but if you have lingering odor issues, you may want to think about possible lapses in your bathroom cleaning routine. Are you regularly emptying out the bathroom wastebasket? Are you changing your fabrics every so often? Are you using air fresheners in the bathroom? You’ve probably thought of all of this, but it never hurts to check.

Hopefully, these tips will help you ensure a clean-smelling bathroom. Should you need any assistance from a plumbing professional, don’t hesitate to give us a call.
